We put in a lot of time with our couples before the wedding day. Consultations, Engagement Shoots and Prep Meetings — all of this time together helps me not be such a stranger on the Wedding Day. Chelsea and Greg live out of state and are small business owners. Every time they were able to make it in to town I was out shooting a wedding, out of town, or both. So, full confession, I was a little worried about how the day would feel with us not having our usual “face time” beforehand. Little did I know that this concern was all for naught. Everyone was so warm and so welcoming all day long. I can still hear Chelsea saying ” How are you Michael? Can I get you anything?” Making sure I was fueled up all day long with coffee and bagels all the way through to lunch (whichI never had time to eat, but I still appreciate greatly). Chelsea even called me out at the end of the night “Did you eat dinner? Did you get cake?”.
The true end of the night came at Harry’s. I have followed couples out to bars after the reception before. However, this was my first time that Harry’s was the bar. I love the shots I get of coupes this late into the night. There is a raw soul that comes out at this time of the night (1am) and you can feel it in the images. Photography is such a cruel mistress. You study and study and work and work to master your craft and then your favorite shot of the night has blown focus, is crooked, and has more soul than Stevie Wonders Ray Bans. You can just feel that this girl climbing the stairs is having the best night of her life.
Cheers.
-Michael
