Jacob and Katelyn | Purdue Memorial Union | West Lafayette, IN

I work in the PMU all the time for events put on by Purdue; tailgates, faculty awards, poster presentations, etc.  There are many things I notice while on these jobs that I have been filing away for later use. The faculty lounges upstairs have a wonderful retro formal academic feel that always reminds me of a Wes Anderson film. I have wanted to shoot a wedding in one for a few years now and finally got the chance. Most recently I have been noticing these old phone booths near the South Ballroom. The fact that phone booths even exist anymore is outrageous and who knows how long they will still be there. The light inside them would traditionally be considered “bad light” but the scene for the picture was strong and I like the authentic look that black and white “bad light” shots have.

On an unrelated note, Jacob and Katelyn met while salsa dancing and my second photographer Becky found an appropriate quote on a plaque somewhere near the bell tower.  I have been in that area many times and used to attend bible study every week in one of those buildings but have never seen that plaque. I am not sure if Becky knew how important dancing was to Jacob and Katelyn’s story or if she just liked the quote but I am glad she found it.
