Knowing when and where to break rules when shooting is always a tricky thing to explain. It is one of those things you just have to feel out with experience. Image 5 in this post is a good example of a broken rule. Traditionally patterned shadows on the face from the environment is a very bad thing. In this specific instance it actually helps the image, mostly because the pattern is soft and the pattern helps accentuate her eyes. I like the look a great deal and the image will most likely be in my portfolio for a long while to come.
