Right away Grace started off with a bang. While giving her directions on top of a parking garage downtown, I said something along the lines of “try not to keep anything straight”. Doing this energetic dance/groove thing was how she interpreted my directions. I loved it so much that I made her do it over and over again. It was worth it though, as the results we got from it were full of a youthful life that was unique every time, and of course she was able to absolutely ”keep nothing straight”.

Having your picture taken can be worse than the dentist for many people. Dave and I feel we need to almost over compensate for this and are always talking about injecting fun into shoots we do. I hope Grace had 1/2 the fun I did on this shoot.

Most parking garages are a fantastic location. When you shoot in them often enough you start to notice little things that make some better than others. I discovered the one featured in this post last summer while jogging through Purdue’s campus. The garage is underground and the concrete entrance bounces this natural soft light back up at the subject. Then when you move inside there is this other-worldly orange light everywhere. On the day of Logan’s shoot the garage was under construction. It turned into a hidden blessing as the garage was completely empty, giving us freedom to take up the center isle.

As a graduate of 2011, I had the pleasure of having Mike Dick photograph my senior portraits. Mike is a very talented and ingenious photographer. Working with him was a blast in itself! Taking adventures of senior photographs to a whole new level. When I had brought an idea to Mike about some shots I wanted to try, he worked with it and made it better than ever. When showing my family my senior portraits they were more than pleased with his work, they believe he truly captured the “true me”, and I could not agree more!

Spring is here in a big way! I have had some serious studio fever from the winter. So when I went outside with Molly for her senior portraits I really tried to play up the sun in a big way, with a lot of warm glow and lens flair. While it felt great to be shooting outdoors again, what I will probably remember most from Molly’s shoot will be the bubbles.

Molly is into bubbles and brought some of her bubble tools with her. We got a few of the shots I was looking for this way, but Molly had a vision! After many ridiculous-looking (but fun!) attempts it was decided hand-blown bubbles were not cutting it. To rectify the situation, we took a small trip to the store and picked up a few totally professional, completely not little child’s toy, “Super Miracle Bubbles”  bubble guns for the bargain price of $3. Best $3 I ever spent.
