How to have fun on a rainy day.

step 1-Put up tarps

step 2-Throw paint

step 3-Take photos!

Jadelyn wanted to do something outside the box for her senior portraits. While brain storming ideas over the phone this one seemed to stick out. Originally this was to be shot the same day as her fall colors shoot but logistically it just would not have been possible. So we rescheduled only to have it rain just as the lights were being set up outdoors. Determined to get the shots, we moved into the garage and made it happen. The whole thing turned out to be a riot! So much fun, I highly recommend you try it. Just make sure you buy washable paint!

I was going to originally shoot Jadelyn at the start of the school year. When I called to schedule she made the decision to wait for fall colors. While I was disappointed at the time, these images clearly show that she was right to wait. Jadelyn was a total trooper putting in the extra effort of climbing fences, falling in creeks, and making friends with mysterious creatures moving in the tall grass. Going the extra mile to get the shot!!!

Dave paid me the highest complement upon seeing the final result. “This is as good as any portrait I have shot.” Coming from a photographer of his caliber this is high praise.

Greater Lafayette Commerce awarded Image Source Photographic with small business of the month for October!  Dave gave a heart warming speech recounting all the people who have helped and supported him along the way. His mother for encouraging him to pursue art, his wife for supporting the demanding life of a small business owner, his good friend Chris Voglund of Artisan Electric for his expert help in all things construction. The shining moment for me was when Dave paid respect to his high school Photography teacher (Tom Shafer) who was in the audience still supporting his student after all these years.

UPDATE: So, the album design is done. Finally. I say that because you have no idea how much I stressed over this one.

When Meaghan approached me some months back about photographing her wedding, she impressed upon me how much she loved my work – to the point that I got the impression that my photography would be the number one priority of the day. Perhaps I’m a narcissist (I am), or perhaps she simply knows how to make one feel appreciated, either way I’ve build this album design up in mind until it was larger than life.

I hope this doesn’t freak Meaghan out, but there was a point during the design that I wanted to run and hide. I’d convinced myself (as I often do) that this was the one where I’d finally blown it, I was officially washed up, and she and her family would probably sue me because of the horrendous job I’d done! Many of you would be surprised how often I actually feel that way about a project, but never was it so bad as with this album design.

The funny thing is, once I’d put the finishing touches on the last couple pages, and could just sit back and look over the design as a finished product, I found that I really, really, liked it. No, I love it. The wonderful fall colors, all the happy smiles, the energy… I also feel that there is a very high level of creative consistency with this particular album. There is one spread that I agonized over in particular, and I’m still not sure it’s quite right (that’s what album changes are for, after all), but it works. And no, I won’t tell you which one it is!

So anyway, enough of my struggling artist psycho babble! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the album design!

I have not been back to Bloomington since I was a student down at IU. The town is just as beautiful as I remember it, and so was the wedding that brought me back down. Props to Mackenzie and Trever for planning a wedding in the Buskirk-Chumley Theater! It was a great non-traditional venue, and lets face it – theater lighting on a stage is just a pleasure to shoot. Many great moments: Trever coming to tears when he saw Mackenzie walking down the isle, Mackenzie being carried back off the stage, and of course drinks at Nick’s with friends afterwords.

Hey, it’s that time of year again – time to vote for your favorite Lafayette area photographer! Follow this link to vote, and while you’re there, why not vote for Moonshine Mason and the Rot Gut Gang as best local band? ;o)
