This was a project I’d been looking forward to for some time! I approached Scott from Waltz for Venus awhile back and asked if he would talk to the band about some ideas I was kicking around.

They were interested, and after a few planning sessions, with the help of Dana from Euphoria, we finally got around to our photo shoot.

Call it archiving, backing up, whatever… maintaining a reliable database of images is the professional photographer’s number one priority (or should be very near the top of the list, anyway).

Up until now I’ve relied on double redundant backup via on-site and off-site DVD backups, as well as the files stored on the RAID devise I work from here at my desk.

Welcome to the world of triple redundancy backup! Along with the RAID which constantly maintains a duplicate of every digital file I create, I have now set my Mac up to copy those files every night to a fireproof, waterproof external hard drive: the ioSafe. Ok, so I know this makes me a dork, but I’m very excited about my new audio gear. What I mean is the stuff that allows me to do studio quality voice-overs to my promo videos. If you click on the ‘Products’ link of the blog, the Flush Mount Coffee Table Book entry is a good example.

I film the footage, then do a voice-over using a Shure SM-58 into this guy:

Then I edit the audio and mix in a sound track in Garage Band. That gets dumped into iMovie where the whole thing is pieced together and… voila!
